Voted INDY Week’s “Best Bagel of the Triangle” in 2022, 2023 we are excited to add another Baker to our Bake & Production Team to bake hot, fresh New York-style bagels every day! You are passionate about learning, and excited to work with yeasted and living products. You try to make each dough you mix, bagel you shape, and stick you flip even better than the last. You enjoy the rush of the Saturday bake, trying to figure out exactly when to bake which bagels to give our customers the freshest bagels possible. You thrive on a Team and always try to make your days more efficient so you can bake even more fun goodies!

As a Baker, you can count on ME to:

  • Own the Bake! I do this by knowing how to boil and bake different dough to perfection AND when to bake which products to meet customer demand
  • Know the Dough! I am hungry to understand dough as a living product so I can choose the baking and production techniques that will result in the best product each day
  • Take charge of all bake related catering by ensuring bagels are sliced and in-place at the right time and all other baked goods are bagged and sealed for the next day
  • Effectively manage my time to execute the day’s bake and production responsibilities in addition to side work, prepping catering, and cleaning the bakery
  • Pay it forward to my Teammates by looking at the week ahead, starting tasks NOW that will set the whole Team up for success later in the week, and creating capacity for increasing demand throughout the week

Bakers Succeed Each Day By:

  • Arriving on-time and ready for the day
  • Assessing the condition of the dough and taking the actions necessary to bake great bagels
  • Communicating with my Team about what the dough looks like, how it feels, conditions during production, optimal baking techniques, and quality of bagels that day
  • Working with my Team to troubleshoot challenges, execute the day’s responsibilities, and support our growth and development as Bakers!
  • Knowing how to safely operate and clean the ovens, mixers, kettle, and dough shaper-divider
  • Monitoring bagel levels, predicting demand, and baking to keep hot, fresh bagels ready for retail and catering customers
  • Properly dividing and stocking baked bagels in baskets and carts depending on Shop and catering needs
  • Following recipes with care
  • Accurately setting controls for mixers and ovens so that ingredients will be mixed or cooked to perfection
  • Properly stocking newly shaped and proofed dough in the walk-in on mobile carts
  • Independently braiding and baking challah, preparing and baking cookie dough, slicing and baking bagel chips for Catering and Retail orders
  • Communicating with the Department Leaders to ensure adequate supply of all baking products and their proper storage and refrigeration
  • Keeping the workspace clean and up to our 100% sanitation standard!

Required Qualifications for Bakers

  • Legally eligible to work in the United States
  • Must have open availability including weekdays, weekends, holidays, and some evenings
  • High school diploma or GED
  • 1 year of baking experience
  • Familiar with industry best practices in health and safety

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Can stand for long periods of time during shift
